SEPTEMBER 1 – THE SLOWDOWN, OMAHA, NE [SHOW #73]
Day 84. 20,118 miles. Back on the road after a day off in Sibley, Iowa, Patrick’s birthplace. There we spent the evening resting up and visiting with The Fleming family. It’s not too often that we get to bask in domestic comforts, and Michael and Lois made us feel right at home. Lois had a large buffet of fruit, veggies and snacks spread out for us, and outside Michael prepared chicken, steaks, and veggie burgers on the grill. It was most luxurious! On the TV we watched the Twins pull out of a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Tigers. David, Devin and I even watched an episode of Scrubs just before we went to bed at (gasp!) 11pm.
The next morning David and Devin hit the golf course while Patrick and Ashley checked out Sibley’s new coffee shop. That afternoon we all went over to the Merricks building and Michael gave us a tour to the facilities and showed us all the different machines used in their operations. Patrick was even razzed by a few of his former co-workers from his short stint at Merricks a few years back. It was great going around the town, where everyone knew him, and the rest of us by association.
