I just woke up from the following dream:
In eager anticipation of tonight’s big show in Kansas City, we make a point to be ahead of time and we arrive at the Uptown Theater hours before we are required to for the load-in and sound-check. The show’s organizer meets us and says “this is great that you’re early. Today Pavement is going to be doing an extra long sound-check, so we’re gonna have you guys play at 12:30 this afternoon.” We oblige and perform as told. But since the concert is scheduled for 8pm, there is no one in the Theater to watch us perform, save for just a few family members who so happen to be there early. On top of that, Don arrives to the venue midway through the set, and demands we play some cover tunes instead of our own (including some Prince song), and everything is a mess. I finally realize “hey, we were supposed to play at 8pm, after the doors open, after people arrive. We got totally screwed!” Now I’m super pissed and I go looking for the organizer. I run into the Pavement dudes backstage, who are relaxing in their greenrooms. They see me and say “hey man, looking forward to seeing you guys play tonight.” “Well we just finished,” I say. “Oh,” they say “well that’s weird.”
Needless to say I was quite relieved when I woke up and the butterflies returned to my stomach. Tonight’s gonna be a blast. We’re looking forward to a great show and getting to share it with so many friends and family. See you in KC!
