SEPTEMBER 12 – HAIR HOLE, COLUMBIA, MO [SHOW #81]

Day 95.  22,369 miles.  Kelly and I had most of the day to run around and explore Kansas City, a place that we are slowly falling in love with.  First was breakfast at YJ’s Snack Bar where I got to talking about bass guitars with two other fellas there.  Then we spent some time at the dog park making new friends and walked to the WWI Memorial which had an amazing view of the city.  Cooled off with some bubble tea and strolled through an artwalk in Westport and then spent a few hours at the free Art Museum admiring their collection of European Art, Egyptian relics, and sculpture garden.  We got to pet two French Bulldogs named Bogey and PePe.  Their owner described them as “Boston Terriers on steroids.”  Our day was capped with a meatilicious dinner feast at Arthur Bryant’s BBQ.

In Columbia we met up with the band and our friends Collin and Laura at a Mexican restaurant.  Kelly and Laura and I snickered at the ridiculous black velvet paintings that looked like the covers of romance novels only with Native American figures.  The place we were gearing up to play was the word-of-mouth basement space known as the Hair Hole.  There was a real good turnout for the show.  The first band, Flight, were incredible.  We played in the middle, and the band Flight closed the show.  The ceiling was nearly as low as the house show in Cedar Falls two nights prior.  Devin remarked how interesting it was that each band arranged themselves in completely different positions from each other.
