OCTOBER 2 – OLD MAIN THEATER, CU BOULDER CAMPUS, BOULDER, CO [SHOW #93]
Day 115.  27,596 miles.  What a wonderful evening we had in Boulder.  Got to play a beautiful little theater in a 19th century brick building on campus with two amazing bands.  The first, Brass Bed (pictured) from Louisiana, is a fantastic rock band that Patrick and I met a few years ago when we played a show together in Nashville.  It was their first tour, and we were impressed with them then.  They’ve been busy recording and touring since, and they continued to amaze us with their songcraft and performance.
The headlining act, Denver’s Paper Bird, stunned us with their beautiful music.  The group is fronted by three ladies (Sarah, Genny and Esme) who sing heavenly harmonies backed by the quartet of acoustic guitar, upright bass, banjo and trombone.  They played a joyous set of rootsy music to a very enthusiastic crowd, ourselves included.  They even flattered us by copping some of our stage moves: headstands, splits and some light horseplay.
The jam in the van:  The Apples In Stereo Fun Trick Noisemaker / The Aislers Set How I learned To Write Backwards / Yo La Tengo I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One / Pink Floyd Meddle / Wilco Being There / Belle & Sebastian Write About Love
The word we heard:  “I want to take that drummer’s beard and put it on my face” –Sarah of Paper Bird
Dinner was a winner:  Half Fast Subs
The pad was rad:  Sarah, Genny, Dani, Tyler
We adore the door:  Nathan
Sound Techs we respect:  Tristan / Daniel
The fill of the bill:  Brass Bed / Paper Bird
Joe your mood might be a little colder when you are the DD in Boulder
Monument / Start The Revolution / After The Holiday / Cognac Dreams / Magic Circle Symphony / When The World Sleeps
