OCTOBER 3 – LARIMER LOUNGE, DENVER, CO [SHOW #94]
Day 116. 27,625 miles. The Iveys opened the show with their very polished, pro sound. Sadly there were very few people out in the club early on this Sunday night. But we enjoyed them nonetheless. Their vocal harmonies were spot on and their music was pretty uplifting. The Babysitters followed who are the side-project band of Eric Allen – the bass player of The Apples In Stereo. Their set was very fun. Quirky original songs with sort of a Cars sound except sloppier. “This guy is like Fishboy in ten years,” Patrick said of the lead singer, Greg. By the time our pals in Pacific Pride took the stage there were many more people in the club having a good time. A man dressed in a giant bear costume emerged during their set, dancing in front of the stage until a guy from the audience pile-drived him into the floor and others pounced onto him, punching and kicking. We were shocked at first, because it looked painful, but at the same time we couldn’t hold back our laughter (the bear-man was okay). Pacific Pride were sloppy, rocking and great. They opened with a song by the Clean, and later threw in an XTC tune, both which fit great with their own songs. We closed the night with a rockin set to a beered-up, rowdy corwd. They were shouting, moshing and hurling empty beer cans at us on stage, something that I wished happened more often on this tour to be quite honest.
