![OCTOBER 13 – GARDEN BOWL, DETROIT, MI [SHOW #102]
Day 126. 29,666 miles. Rainy drive to Detroit today, after what seems to have been endless weeks of sunshine. First order of business was to hunt down the Motown Museum located on Berry Gordy Jr. Way. Sadly it was closed for the day, but a friendly worker saw us out on the front lawn and snapped our picture. Then over to the Garden Bowl, a bowling alley below the Magic Stick music club and attached to the Majestic Theater. At first we were under the assumption that we would be playing on the stage that is set up over the center four lanes, but instead we were to play in a cramped space in the front bar. We killed time playing cards in the front bar while listening to the music mix that was gradually going through hits from the 60s-70s-80s-90s as if it were a musical timeline. Then enters Scott Boyink, an awesome dude who help us get the show. We introduced ourselves and talked for quite awhile. He’s been a longtime figure in the Detroit music scene. We also talked for a long time with the bartender, Chris, who plays in a band called Replica and always kept our pitcher of beer full. Later at Scott’s house, we watched some footage of his band, The Amino Acids, while enjoying some amazing homemade chicken soup. This town’s got soul!
