NOVEMBER 11 – HI JINX WOMYNS CO-OP, SAN JOSE, CA [SHOW #121]
Day 155. 36,210 miles. First off a big thanks to Rich and the rest of Sourpatch for letting us hop onto this show with only a day’s notice. I first met them a year and a half ago when I was on tour playing trumpet for The Besties and we played a house show with Sourpatch in San Jose. More recently, Sourpatch played the HHBTM Popfest in August but alas, our bands played at the same time in different venues so we missed each other then. But Mike Turner had become a fan of their band and put out their first full-length on HHBTM Records. We were the first to arrive at the Hi Jinx Womyns Co-Op, a shared living space in San Jose that operates a Co-Op in the garage that houses books, zines and publications, clothing, videotapes and more. One of the roommates, Felisha (or is it Felicia?), cooked up a big kettle of popcorn for the party, and someone else brought out a box of Joe Joe’s – vegan vanilla sandwich cookies from Trader Joes for the merch table. This night the garage served as the show space for the four bands playing tonight’s show: locals Soft Knife and Sourpatch (pictured), us, and Weird TV from Olympia. Each of the groups that evening were terrific. The snug crowd packed in the garage was very receptive and the general vibe of the whole evening was very positive. The show ended early and we went back to Rich & Christina’s place where we met and hung out with their roommates and the Weird TV gang. But the tiredness of our long Southwestern drives and short nights up sleep was catching up with us, and we were yawning and getting heavy before midnight.
