The Poison Control Center

The Poison Control Center is the Editor’s Pick for Show of the Week in Chicago

Iowa-based quartet the Poison Control Center sound increasingly beholden to ’90s guitar indie on their latest LP, the sprawling yet assured double album Sad Sour Future. After hearing PCC’s deceptive looseness and fuzzy hooks, few would be surprised to learn that the fellas opened for Pavement on one stop of last year’s reunion tour. The other frequently cited point of reference is Elephant 6; and the band does take a Sgt. Pepper-on-a-budget approach to instrumentation and production, and a collectivist favor for rotating vocals that happily supports the citation. If ’90s revivalism sticks, it has a bright light.
