The Poison Control Center

FEBRUARY 5 – AMES PROGRESSIVE, AMES, IA [SHOWS #141 & #142]
[DF] What a show!  It’s almost impossible to summarize this show since there were 38 different acts that performed during the 14-hour duration of the show.  The non-stop music marathon was in part a celebration of the Ames Progressive space (The Space), and also something of a fundraiser for the AP to purchase a new PA system for their shows.  Upon Nate’s request (I think), we played two sets during the event – first, an acoustic performance to start the day off at noon, and then again at 11:50pm for an electric show.  The vibe of the whole day was great, and the music truly almost never stopped.  Two stages were set up – a larger stage on the east side of the room and a smaller stage in the northwest corner of the room.  Nate Logsdon did a masterful job coordinating everything so that a new act would perform roughly a minute after the prior act finished, with set times generally around 15-20 minutes.  Even late in the day, everything was still running according to schedule – a rather impressive feat given the sheer quantity of musicians performing.  It would be unfair to name highlights, since truly everyone that performed was quite incredible, bolstering the point that Ames currently has one of the healthiest local music scenes around, and are proud to be a part of, due surely in no small part to people like Nate and Kate Kennedy who run the Ames Progressive.
Dinner was a winner:  veggie chili courtesy of Nate & Kate
Sound Tech we respect:  Isaac Norman
The fill of the bill:  just about every Ames band in existence!
Acoustic noon set:  Wake Up, Waco / Start The Revolution / Make Love a Star / Running Back / By The Wave / Friends in the Band / Terminal
Electric Evening set:  Monument / Don’t Go / Magic Circle Symphony / Being Gone / Porcelain Brain / Pacific Sunrise / Dracula’s Casket / When The World Sleeps
