The Poison Control Center

FEBRUARY 13 – SCHUBAS TAVERN, CHICAGO, IL [SHOW #146]
[DF] Peeled ourselves off the floor in Beloit and walked outside to find that the weather was warm and gorgeous.  A relief from some of the brutal temperatures of the week prior.  Grabbed a coffee downtown and saw Biff for one last time, already looking worse for the wear – he was covered in a grime that didn’t seem to be there the day before.  Hit the road for the short drive to Chicago.
We went straight to Schubas, where we were delighted to find that Juliana would be running sound again for us.  She had ran sound for us during our previous Schubas stop last June and was one of the best sound persons we have dealt with on tour.  Ate some excellent food at the Harmony Grill restaurant with my sister, brother-in-law, and friends, and then did a video interview with Josh for the blog Chicago Tunes (the first minute of it is especially hilarious, since we didn’t realize the camera was rolling yet).
I missed the first band’s set, Animal City, as I was catching up with friends in the front room, but everyone else in the band said it was terrific.  T’Bone played second and is constituted by three now-Chicagoans but former-Cedar Rapidians, and so long-time friends of David.  They had a great sound which I can honestly say I can’t compare to anything.  Weird in a good way, very original.  We played last, alternating between old songs and new ones from our album which we recorded in Chicago just a month prior.  My sister, Nicole, joined us on stage to perform her lines on “Dracula’s Casket”.  We all talked too much between songs, but it was a fun Sunday show in Chicago nonetheless, and again with a relatively good turnout which left us wondering when our luck with good shows was going to run dry.
The word we heard:  “She slept with Donovan, which is essentially sleeping with the whole ‘60’s” -Nathan
The pets we met:  Coby / Maddie / Berkeley / Riley
The pad was rad:  Nicole and Tyler
Dinner was a winner:  Harmony Grill
Sound Techs we respect:  Juliana and Dan
The fill of the bill:  Animal  / T’bone
Some Ordinary Vision / Monument / Seagull / Wake Up, Waco / Don’t Go / Pacific Sunrise / Torpedoes on Tuesday / Church on Mars / Dracula’s Casket / Porcelain Brain / Magic Circle Symphony / Friends in the Band / When The World Sleeps
