FEBRUARY 19 – BUG JAR, ROCHESTER, NY [SHOW #151]
[JT] Devin and Patrick now have a new move now called buttering the toast which they execute mid-song to an unsuspecting audience member. Tim, the gracious and sweet booker for The Bug Jar was the inaugural recipient of the move Saturday night. The crowd surrounding him immediately jumped in, hoisting Tim off the floor and nearly tearing him in twain in the process.
Such a fun night in a chilly, snowy Rochester. The opening acts were terrific. Our dear friend Elise performed again as Baby Shark (pictured), this time with the accompaniment of her friend Richard on upright bass. It made for a lovely addition to her heartfelt and fragile songs. Local band Muler played second, and we were tickled by their catchy pop-rock songs and lead singer David who was erupting with enthusiasm throughout the entire set. His energy was infectious. Spacelords took the stage next and tore through a set of ripping rock tunes. The singer was a monster on the guitar.
Our Rochester friends came out to see us again. We played GBV’s “A Salty Salute” for Emily, and Elise joined us on stage to sing the choruses of “Being Gone.” The crowd was super lively and ready to party. Shawn (our booking agent travelling along with us on this eastern stretch) was waxing nostalgic over his prior experiences bringing other bands to the Bug Jar, and seeing our shows there getting better and better.
Once again we stayed with our good friends Kira and Joel. Kira continued her customary hospitality by giving us a warm place to sleep, washing our dirty clothes and cooking up a delicious breakfast including vegan blueberry pancakes and a box of coffee. She is an ever-gracious host who is terrific company and makes for great conversation.
