JUNE 8 – BILL’S PLACE, YAKIMA, WA [SHOW #213]
[JT]  As we drove down I-82 towards Yakima, is seemed like we were driving away from all civilization.  The dry brown hills were peppered with frosty-green shrubs as far you could see.  Every now and then there would be a dirt road that snaked off and disappeared.  When we did reach Yakima it was an interesting sight.  Some run-down places, a lot of Mexican restaurants and groceries, and something we have never seen before:  sexy coffee shops with names like “Brewlesque,” “Dream Girls,” and “Moulin Brews.”  Coffee stands served by scantily-clad women.  We were told later that the recent trend began in Seattle and has been gaining popularity in the region.
Pulled in to Bill’s Place – an Irish bar on the south side of Downtown.  We were greeted by Aaron working behind the bar.  “You guys are the band?  What can I get for ya?”  “What’s our deal for tonight?”  “The deal is to get hammered,” he answered.  We all saddled up to the bar and took a breather from the long drive from Montana, and he served us some area beers.  Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals was on the TV and I got sucked into it.  We ordered some food from the bar menu and chit-chatted with some of the other folks at the bar.  We met Doug, the owner, and the soundman Dan and his wife Melissa, who booked the show.  Our new album just hit the shelves yesterday and Melissa picked up a copy at the local record store in Yakima.  We were surprised to hear that they carried it.  A fair amount of people had showed up to see us play or hang out.  We set up our equipment and played for an hour, and it was fun to play to an entirely new crowd.  We played our cover of “Running Back” and a man & woman danced on the floor in front of us.  At the pause near the end of “When The World Sleeps” Patrick told the man to dip the woman, and got the whole bar to start chanting “Dip! Dip! Dip!” until he finally did so and we rocked out the rest of the song.  People were up on their feet and pumping their fists in the air and we got a kick out of it.  Made a number of friends that night and a fun time was had by all.  The dancing man continued to rock out to the music on the PA after we were finished, jumping on the stage playing air guitar and being hilariously obnoxious.  Finally Dan had to give him the boot from the place, and he talked my ear off about old rockers I’ve never heard of while I was loading up the van.
Dinner was a winner:  salad & sandwiches from Bill’s Menu
The word we heard:  “You know who this is? It’s Cake.  Those guys are so crazy” -Dan
