![JUNE 9 – SUNSET TAVERN, SEATTLE, WA [SHOW #214]
[JT] Happy Birthday Ashley Tape Fleming! As a present to her, Patrick flew his wife out to Seattle so that she could experience it for the first time and spend the weekend riding along with us through the Northwest. David, Devin and I met up with our buddy Phil Young, who had also flown out to visit his sister Beth during her final weekend of living in Seattle, and they too would tag along with us for the next few shows. We went out to lunch at an Irish bar called Terrible Beauty with Joe’s future aunt-in-law Louisa, who introduced us to some of her friends that served us and told us a lot about the Seattle scene (including more about the sexy coffee shops).
After lunch we spent the afternoon walking around the Seattle Sculpture gardens and looking out over the Sound. Later we met up with some of Beth & Phil’s relatives for a brief drink at yet another Irish bar in the Freemont area before we went out to the Sunset Tavern in Ballard. At the club – Sunset Tavern – we enjoyed some delicious pizzas courtesy of Flying Squirrel, and visited with our friends who started to show up. Seattle’s The Bismarck opened the show and set a rocking tone for the evening. We also played with them at our first ever Seattle show (in a tiny one-car garage) over three years ago. The second act, Runt, was sort of a joke band that played punk rock songs on very small instruments, and all their songs had to do with being small or short, like “Sweat The Small Stuff.” Even in the between-song banter they were cracking terrible ‘small’ jokes. Quite funny, and they three guys in the band were very nice.
